Give the gift of Language: English Express

At our October Indivisible Ferndale meeting (at Jennifer and Stephen’s home), MaryAnn Hytken spoke to us about an amazing English Language program for adult learners throughout the Humboldt Nation.  The program is entitled “English Express” with classes in Eureka, Fortuna and Redway.  MaryAnn is hoping to expand the program to Ferndale in 2018.

Just in case you didn’t see the North Coast Journal this past week, MaryAnn and her program were the cover story!  And what a story it is!

Read the entire NCJ story here.

If you are like Barb and I, this is the time of the year when we look for outstanding community programs where we can donate.   English Express is one of those programs.  By simply going here, you can learn more about the program and make a donation online.  If you prefer, you can always mail in a donation as well.

Please consider giving the gift of language by donating to English Express.

And last, but never least, . . .

Patrick O’Rourke made the journey to Arcata this past week and experienced first hand the “Power to the People Lunch.”  This is the group, lead by Elizabeth Conner, that meets every two weeks to make phone calls to our elected Representatives on topics of importance to all of us and our nation.  Patrick has suggested that we might combine forces with our friends in Fortuna and host our own Power Lunch phone bank.

In the meantime, this week’s topics include:

  • Just Say No to the GOP Tax Scam
  • Renew Funding of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
  • Support the Dreamers: Pass a Clean Dream Act in 2017!
  • Support S. 1735, the Special Counsel Independence Protection Act
  • Hold Trump Accountable for His Sexual Misconduct
  • Senator McConnell: Swear in Doug Jones

Time is running out as the end of this congressional session approaches.   Make one or more calls today.   Here are this week’s call sheets.

I hope you all have some Happy Holidays!   Eat, Drink and Be Merry!  I will see you in the New Year when we will celebrate an entire year of Indivisible Ferndale achievements and set our sights on the 2018 elections!

Together, We are Indivisible!

The contact information I found is this: A phone number for EnglishExpress: 443-5021
A contact “for more information”: Beth Niemeyer 362-3968
I found this on the English Express website: humboldtenglishexpress.org
There are currently classes in Eureka and Fortuna. I would love to see one start in Ferndale.
