Hunter Cresswell, covering tonight’s City Council meeting for the Times-Standard filed this report a few minutes ago:
..All council members attended the meeting in a packed house in the Ferndale City Hall council chambers. So many people showed up city clerk Kristene Hall had to set out extra chairs for the more than 50 members of the public present.
During the flag salute at the beginning of the meeting, some members in the crowd put extra emphasis on the “for all” at the end of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Ferndale Elementary School teacher Maria [sic] Rodriguez came to the podium to comment in tears.
“I’m here asking for your support with our students and our families,” she said. “We have families that don’t have food in their house because they are afraid to go grocery shopping so I have student coming to school hungry and afraid.”
After Rodriguez’s comment, the crowd erupted into a thunderous standing ovation…
